What is Harm Reduction
Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use. Harm Reduction is also a movement for social justice built on a belief in, and respect for, the rights of people who use drugs. State the source.
At NZNEP we believe that having a non judgmental empathic approach, working with people who inject drugs wherever they are at in relation to their use of drugs and however they understand their drug use is essential. Injecting drug users frequently experience stigma and discrimination; this can often present a barrier to accessing services. As peer based peer led service we have an established credibility and trust within the community. Needle exchanges are therefore a safe space and an important source of information and advice.
